Christy Tashjian NP, Midwife

Christy has been an RN since1994 while also studying and then practicing midwifery. After working as a homebirth midwife in Austin, Texas for 16 years, she received a master’s degree in nursing in 2014. She worked as a midwife consultant and educator with the Austin-based Mama Sana Vibrant Woman project focusing on group pregnancy care and perinatal support for low-income people of color. Christy has also worked with and supported the LGBTQ+ community in her practices, specifically in helping with fertility and conception. She joined the staff of Balcones Ob/Gyn as an NP for two years to bring her varied experience in pregnancy care and women's health to a mainstream practice, before moving to Canada in 2020 with her wife and child. After two years of bureaucracy, Christy became registered as an NP in Ontario and is currently a sessional instructor in the Lakehead University Nursing Program and providing sexual health care at a clinic in Thunder Bay. Christy is an herb crafter, fiber creatrix, hearth keeper, forest therapy guide, and mom who continues to be interested in all aspects of healthcare related to queer/trans folx and women, especially in regards to increasing access to holistic and edgy health information.
