The Stress Response
What happens if you encounter multiple stressors one after another, or are dealing with a stressor that never goes away? The body maintains this high alert stress response, which can disrupt sleep and mood. Eventually, your system cannot maintain this response any longer and you enter an exhaustion phase, characterized by extreme fatigue, which is generally known as burn out. Sleep can either remain disrupted or you may sleep more than usual but not feel better on waking.
